WCSS and Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University Hold the Opening Ceremony of the 2022 UIP & Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium Successfully

On June 27, West China School of Stomatology (WCSS), Sichuan University, and Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University held the opening ceremony of the 2022 UIP & Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium at the WCSS academic hall. Professor YE Ling, Chair of the Symposium and Dean of WCSS, Professor Nobuhiro Takahashi, Dean of the Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University, Professor HAN Xianglong, Vice Dean of WCSS, heads of relevant departments, and expert lecturers attended the event on-site or via a video link. The opening ceremony was co-hosted by Professor SHEN Jiefei, Deputy Secretary of the WCSS CPC Committee, and Professor HONG Guang, Chair of the Liaison Center for Innovative Dentistry, Tohoku University.

At the opening ceremony, on behalf of WCSS, Professor YE firstly expressed heartfelt gratitude for the hard work of all expert lecturers and Tohoku University as the co-host of the event, extended a warm welcome to both Chinese and overseas students present online, and introduced the preparatory work of the Symposium. On behalf of Tohoku University, Professor Nobuhiro Takahashi spoke highly of the long-standing, productive cooperation between the two sides, highlighted the status quo of the jointly initiated project under the CAMPUS Asia program, and expressed best wishes for the event.

After the opening ceremony, Professor HAN Xianglong and Professor Hong Guang introduced expert lecturers and curriculum design of the Symposium, respectively, and co-hosted the following sessions.

This year’s UIP & Campus Asia Plus Joint Symposium was held online and offline from June 27 to July 1. The Symposium invited 16 experts from the Graduate School of Dentistry, Tohoku University, and 10 from WCSS as lecturers. It offered two specialized English courses: Multidisciplinary Perspective on Comprehensive Clinical Cases in Stomatology and New Discoveries and Prospects of Oral Medicine: Innovation Forum of Asia CAMPUS Plus Program. The activity was live-streamed to over 30 Asian institutions of stomatology for free, gathering over 1,000 students online on the first day.

UIP, as an essential platform for WCSS to develop first-level stomatology education, has been held several times in collaboration with internationally renowned schools of stomatology, including Harvard University, University of California, Los Angeles, Tohoku University, and the Academic Centre for Dentistry in Amsterdam. WCSS, Tohoku University, and five other schools of stomatology from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and ASEAN countries co-initiated the intergovernmental international exchange and cooperation project under the CAMPUS Asia program and have had it approved by the Ministry of Education of China, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, as well as other relevant government ministries. The Symposium aims to further integrate high-quality education resources of WCSS and Tohoku University and promote exchanges of education and teaching and talent cultivation among Asian schools of stomatology.
