In early September, the pre-departure orientation and send-off ceremony for the 2025 batch of CAMPUS Asia exchange students for the autumn semester were held in the Shengli Building on the Yushan Campus of the Ocean University of China (OUC). Two students of our first batch to pursue dual master’s degrees at Nagasaki University in Japan, Liu Jiaqi (Master’s in Aquaculture, enrolled in 2023) and Wu Jing (Master’s in Fisheries Development, enrolled in 2023), embarked on a year-long academic journey. The event was attended by Yang Shuo, Director of Asian and African Affairs at the International Office; Gao Xiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the Fisheries College; Professor Liu Yang, Vice Dean of the Fisheries College and Director of CAMPUS Asia; Li Huiru, Associate Professor; and Zhang Xinyu, Foreign Affairs Secretary.

At the ceremony, Ms. Yang Shuo elaborated on OUC’s policies for overseas exchanges and delivered a speech on safety protocols and cross-cultural adaptation, drawing on her experiences. She encouraged the students to comply with local regulations, prioritize their personal safety, actively adapt to new environments, and enhance their capabilities in international exchange and collaboration. Deputy Secretary Gao Xiang also urged them to uphold the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important reply letter to OUC, embrace the mission of youth in the new era, balance academic and research commitments, and strategically plan for future development. Professor Liu Yang detailed the educational requirements for the dual-degree program between OUC and Nagasaki University, emphasizing the pioneering role of the students in this initial exchange and encouraging them to seize opportunities, pursue excellence, and achieve outstanding results.

The short-term exchange program for CAMPUS Asia was also successfully launched this semester. Li Jun (Master’s in Fisheries Resources, enrolled in 2024), Fu Yan (Bachelor’s in Aquaculture, enrolled in 2022), and Ke Jiongting (Bachelor’s in Aquaculture, enrolled in 2022) of the Fisheries College departed for Pukyong National University in the ROK for a three-month study and exchange program.

CAMPUS Asia is a pivotal platform for OUC to cultivate globally competent talents. The departure of this initial batch of dual-degree students marks a milestone in collaborative graduate education between our university and the Japanese partner university. It will undoubtedly expand our students’ academic horizons, enhance their research capabilities, and deepen practical cooperation and exchange between our university and partners in Japan and the ROK.
