August 27 saw the successful conclusion of the International Summer Camp for the 2025 CAMPUS Asia Hybrid Short-term Academic Exchange Program (hereinafter referred to as the “CAMPUS Asia Program”).

On July 12, the online opening ceremony of the CAMPUS Asia Program was attended and addressed by Professor Kyung Soo Jun from Sungkyunkwan University, Professor Mao Deqiang from Shandong University, Professor Wu Wei from Nanyang Technological University, and Professor Khamhou Saphouvong from the National University of Laos. Seiji Suzuki, Associate Professor at Nagasaki University and Director of CAMPUS Asia, presided over the ceremony.

Since August 9, faculty and students have visited internship bases, undertaken specialized courses, participated in cross-cultural language activities, and exchanged with alumni at Sungkyunkwan University, Shandong University, and Nagasaki University, respectively. In China, the students attended Chinese language and culture classes and specialized courses in engineering. They also visited the Center for Research and Experience of Traditional Chinese Culture, the three Confucian sites in Qufu, the Shandong Museum, and the Sinotruk Museum. While learning about Chinese history and Qilu culture, they studied China’s geotechnical engineering, remote sensing theory, and the development and application of heavy-duty trucks, deepening their understanding of China’s significant technological achievements.

On August 26, the summer camp’s presentation session and closing ceremony were held at Nagasaki University, where representatives from participating universities delivered concluding remarks. Various groups organized seminars and shared opinions on the theme “History of Natural Disaster Management in China, Japan, the ROK, and Laos.” Representatives from the participating universities selected Ma Tianhao, Wu Honglin, and Xie Xinyuan, graduate students from Shandong University, as “Best Performance Award” recipients.

This summer camp was hosted by Nagasaki University in Japan and jointly organized by Shandong University in China and Sungkyunkwan University in the ROK. Over 40 faculty members and students from Shandong University, Sungkyunkwan University, Nagasaki University, National University of Laos, and Nanyang Technological University participated in the event.

“CAMPUS Asia,” known as the “Collective Action of Mobility Program of University Students in Asia,” is a government-led initiative by China, Japan, and the ROK to promote inter-university exchange and cooperation, particularly academic interactions among students. Shandong University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Nagasaki University were approved for the second phase of CAMPUS Asia in 2016 and the third phase (CAMPUS Asia+) in 2021. The International Summer Camp for the 2025 CAMPUS Asia Hybrid Short-term Academic Exchange Program forms a crucial component of these short-term student exchanges.
