The Inauguration Ceremony for Freshmen 2023 of the China-Japan-ROK “CAMPUS Asia” Program

On the 8th of October at 2:00 pm, the inauguration ceremony for the Freshmen 2023 of the CAMPUS Asia program took place in Room 223 of the No. 1 Teaching Building on the North Campus of our university. The event was attended by officials from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, as well as the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, alongside the dedicated teachers and administrative staff of the CAMPUS Asia program. The ceremony was elegantly hosted by CAMPUS Asia students in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

On-site at the Inauguration Ceremony

Director Zhou Peng of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange extended his congratulations to the incoming CAMPUS Asia students and offered a warm welcome to Japanese and Korean students. He expressed the department’s unwavering commitment to supporting the development of the CAMPUS Asia program, anticipating its bright future. Chen Duoyou, Chinese founder of the CAMPUS Asia program and Honorary Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, highlighted that our university’s CAMPUS Asia program has produced a substantial number of internationally competitive talents, setting a high standard for CAMPUS Asia teams across China. He encouraged the 2023 freshmen to uphold the “CAMPUS Asia spirit” of fearlessness and aspire to become outstanding international talents, not only for Northeast Asia but for the world. Yang Xiaohui, Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, addressed the gathering under four themes: “congratulations,” “welcome,” “review,” and “outlook.” She reflected on the historical journey of the CAMPUS Asia program at our university and urged the students to embrace the responsibility and duty of being ambassadors for East Asian cultural exchanges, contributing to the friendly relationships between China, Japan, and the ROK. Zhou Xiujiao, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture, was also present at the ceremony.

During the performance segment, students from China, Japan, and the ROK displayed their diverse talents, leaving the audience in awe. The ice-breaking game brought the ceremony to a climax, with students from the three nations expressing their appreciation for the event, recognizing its role in breaking down barriers, fostering friendships, and eliminating unfamiliarity.

The CAMPUS Asia GDUFS team, with a focus on talent development, has harnessed the strengths of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Ritsumeikan University in Japan, and Dongseo University in the ROK to design a scientifically sound curriculum and talent development program. This has resulted in ongoing optimization of the operating system and a marked improvement in the quality of talent development. Our CAMPUS Asia program, now in its third session, has consistently received the highest evaluations from the Ministries of Education in China, Japan, and the ROK. Looking ahead, we will continue to follow an international talent development model that fosters collaboration between internal and external elements. This will involve building an international team of teachers and sharing operational data to achieve the goal of cultivating “global leaders in East Asia.”
